FUSION opened its online benchmarking series on 15 June 2026 with a session on Food Safety and Consumer Protection. The session brought together 43 attendees, including FUSION MSMEs, mentors, representatives from RT4D and DFAT, the Kalimajari Foundation project team and a resource person from UNICEF.
Dr Mamadou Ndiaye, Chief of Nutrition at UNICEF Indonesia, discussed food safety as more than a regulatory requirement. The session linked safe food production with consumer protection, nutrition outcomes and confidence in the food system. Participants were introduced to preventive approaches including GHP, HACCP and ISO 22000, alongside examples of how food-safety standards can support product quality and market competitiveness.
The session also included a practical business perspective from Sri Martini of PT Ayesya Usaha Bersama, or AUB Food Hub. She shared how food-safety principles are integrated across sourcing, product consistency, quality control and coordination with partner MSMEs. Her experience highlighted the importance of maintaining common quality standards when multiple suppliers contribute to a broader business operation.
During the discussion, participants raised questions about applying food-safety standards in MSME settings, integrating food safety with nutrition objectives and understanding technical requirements such as CCP and OPRP.
To turn learning into follow-up action, participants were introduced to the Gap Action Card. The tool was designed to help each business identify priority gaps and translate the session into practical improvements that could be carried into mentoring and preparation for Business Matching.
