On 18 June 2026, FUSION held its second online benchmarking session, focusing on food safety, product registration and certification readiness. The session recorded 34 attendees and brought FUSION MSMEs into direct discussion with BPOM on the regulatory requirements that can shape access to broader markets.
Sondang Widya Estikasari, Director of Processed Food Production Supervision at BPOM, presented the regulatory framework governing food safety in Indonesia. Participants were introduced to BPOM’s food-safety supervision system, product-registration requirements, production-facility certification, food labelling and post-market monitoring. The presentation also outlined steps that MSMEs should prepare before applying for product registration and emphasised the need to prioritise compliance according to the stage of business development.
The session was complemented by a sharing session from Juju Rustandi of Mang Udju, who discussed the practical process of developing a food business while improving production practices and preparing for compliance. His experience highlighted that strengthening standards is often a gradual process requiring investment, operational discipline and continuous learning.
Participants used the Q&A session to discuss registration procedures, certification priorities, post-market compliance and technical aspects of food-safety implementation. BPOM’s responses emphasised early preparation and continuous improvement rather than treating compliance as a one-off administrative exercise.
As in the first benchmarking session, participants completed a Gap Action Card to identify differences between their current practices and the requirements discussed. The intention was to turn regulatory information into concrete business-readiness actions before engagement with larger buyers.
